What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you get there?
A New Year is typically a time to take stock of what has been accomplished, and what remains to be accomplished. I can tell you that when I graduated from high school, I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. I still don’t! 😉
As trite as it sounds, life is NOT a destination. It is not a finite place where we can settle in, put down roots, and exist. Life, strangely enough, is ALIVE! “Living organisms undergo metabolism, maintain homeostasis, possess a capacity to grow, respond to stimuli, reproduce and, through natural selection, adapt to their environment in successive generations.” (Wikipedia) By definition, this means, LIFE, participates is each of these, as well. Life never stays the same, for better or worse.
Never in a thousand years, might I have dreamed the life I am now living, and yet … I am content. My work is fulfilling. My material needs are met and many of the wants, as well. I am relatively healthy, and most importantly, I have three delightful adult children who … MAKE MY DAY! It may not be anyone else’s “American Dream,” but it is mine!
The new year extends before us, and it is time to analyze and make plans for the coming year. How does your life today measure up to your dreams? Are you better off than 4 years ago? What will you do this coming year to improve your life?
As 2011 comes to an inauspicious end, here’s hoping, working, and praying that 2012 will be a year of turning the tide … a Rebirth of Liberty in America.
