“No promise from God is empty of power, for with God there is no such thing as impossibility!” Luke 1:37 TPT
Life is a blast, isn’t it? Every now and then, it seems to backfire. I have yet to meet a person who expected to be where they are. I mean who, as a child or teen dreams of being a waitress or a janitor or a convenience store clerk, yet I have been all of those. Who expects the horrifying truth of one of the wicked diseases? Who plans to lose a loved one un-expectedly?
No one! Yet “bad” things, hard things, uncomfortable things, and ugly things come to each of us in time. So what do we do then? What do we do when life doesn’t play out as planned?
I don’t think Mary ran around as a child with a dream of someday giving birth to … the Son of God! I bet her parents didn’t either. In fact, I’d be willing to bet they were pretty upset and embarrassed when they discovered their young teenage daughter was pregnant! Do you suppose they entertained the idea of “disowning” her for the shame she brought upon them? Did the townspeople talk of stoning her? And Joseph … ? How many men would buy the story of “the Holy Spirit did it!”
46 And Mary said:
“My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
That is some response, right? But God made her a promise. The message Gabriel delivered contained God’s promise, “For with God nothing will be impossible.”
As amazing as it is to picture, Mary responded as though she actually believed God’s promise. Do I? Ha! Sometimes, maybe, but … somehow I don’t think I would have handled that news as well as she did.
2016 is the Year of Restoration. I have lived long enough to acknowledge that I have allowed much God promised to me to be stolen. I want it back! The time, the brokenness, my health, the unkind words … It has all been redeemed, and I want it back, so God can work new things into my life.
“For with God nothing will be impossible.”
