Things are changing. In my home, things are changing. My soldiergirl (22) is home for a few weeks. My oldest daughter (28)is 7 mo pregnant. My son is, well, 25! The “hub” of our family is no longer at my home, but my daughter’s. That’s ok … isn’t it? Then why do I feel like a failure?
You’d think I was beyond the effects of hormones, but no … I guess I’m feeding off of her overload! Ha! I should be happy, excited, thrilled to have my family together again, but something is off. Must be me. They’re not kids anymore, but they will always be MY kids …
Change is hard, but I know this will be a special Christmas with wonderful memories to treasure … 🙂
MERRY CHRISTMAS to ALL
and a Conservative victory in 2012!!!
BY MALIA ZIMMERMAN – KAILUA, OAHU – The U.S. Secret Service has arrived, street barricades are in place, and the U.S. Coast Guard has stationed itself in the waters surrounding Kailua, Oahu.
That is a sure sign President Barack Obama’s security team is preparing for the first family to arrive in the small beachside community as early as Friday night for what is expected to be a 17-day vacation.
The President and his family are traveling separately to Hawaii because he wants resolve the payroll tax cut issue before leaving Washington – and his wife does not want to wait.
But the advanced trip and the cost that comes with it – as much as $100,000 (flight and security) – adds to an already expensive vacation for the taxpayers.
Hawaii Reporter research shows the total cost for the President’s visit for taxpayers far exceeded $1.5 million in 2010 – but is even more costly this year because he extended his vacation by three days and the cost for Air Force One travel has jumped since last assessed in 2000. In addition, Hawaii Reporter was able to obtain more specifics about the executive expenditures.
The total cost (based on what is known) for the 17-day vacation roundtrip vacation to Hawaii for the President, his family and staff has climbed to more than $4 million. Here’s why. TRAVEL: $3,629,622
The biggest expense is President Barack Obama’s round trip flight to Hawaii via Air Force One, a cost the GAO office estimated at $1 million in the year 2000. Contacted today, the GAO confirmed there is no report the independent office affiliated with Congress has prepared since 2000 to operate Air Force One and Air Force Two. READ MORE
At a time when even he is preaching about sacrifice, about helping our neighbors, about joining together to reach a common goal to improve our economy and create jobs of the millions out of work, it is wonderful to see how seriously he takes the notion of personal sacrifice. Don’t get me wrong! Every working person deserves a vacation, or at least time off. I don’t begrudge him that … although the exact amount of work he does is a bit ambiguous. Nevertheless, time off, fine! But geez! Nearly $4 MILLION? Isn’t that a little extravagant under the best circumstances? And after firmly placing the blame for the fiasco in which we find ourselves squarely … everyplace but where it ought to be, on HIS shoulders, and bragging that he has accomplished as much in his first two years as all but 4 other Presidents … True enough, I guess. He didn’t necessarily say he IMPROVED the USA, just how much he accomplished! God, help us!
Before I rant on … zipping lips!

(WASHINGTON)— Congressman Allen West (R-FL) released this statement today on the Temporary Extension of the Payroll Tax:
“Americans once again have reason to be ashamed with their elected officials as President Barack Obama and United States Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are playing a game of chicken for political gain at the expense of the American people suffering under failed economic policies. This two month amendment proposed today is nothing more than a short-term band aid. Americans are looking for certainty and confidence in the American economy and today’s substitute amendment passed by the Senate delivers neither to the American people.
The United States Senate continues to let down the American people, more than 950 days without accomplishing even the most basic of responsibilities to pass a budget and ignoring more than 25 job creating bills passed on a bipartisan basis by the House of Representatives. The Senate’s Substitute Amendment to Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2011 H.R. 3630 is nothing but typical liberal Democrat incrementalism and political gimmickry to continue to debate these issues into the election year.
I will not be voting for this short term fix when it comes to the floor of the House of Representatives. I will only vote to reaffirm the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act as passed by the House of Representatives.
The Senate’s Substitute Amendment is yet another disappointment to the American people. Our nation is desperately seeking leadership in our Nation’s Capital not crises management. I stand ready to return to Capitol Hill and stay there until will get the mission done.”
The troops from Iraq are mostly home. Is that the end? My thoughts have scrambled from one position to the next across the board in search of something that fits, to no avail.
There are so many issues involved in the debate, from the people of Iraq to the people of America … if only we knew the TRUTH.
In a nutshell, we helped overthrow the Shaw and installed a radical Muslim regime in Iran from whence hordes of radical Shiites now roam as terrorists throughout the Muslim world , Europe and the US. We have removed a bloody tyrant in Iraq and replaced it with … who knows, but most likely it will succumb to the power of Iran before our troops recover from their deployment.
And yet … we made a blood deposit, and American deposit long ago and helped establish Israel, once again, as a nation. We supported Israel in their efforts to maintain a national homeland since 1948. We backed them in the 6-day War of 1967, and regardless of what the administration says, We-the-People of America, for the most part, support the efforts of the Israeli people to defend their homeland against the surrounding threat of annihilation.
Yes, our politicians, both Bush Sr & Jr and Obama have given us incomplete and at time inaccurate information. No doubt. Why? Numerous possibilities that I will not speculate.
“From 1980 to 1988 Iraqi fought a bloody war against its neighbor Iran. In 1980 Iraqi invaded over a border dispute over the ownership of the Shatt Al Arab waterway which borders the two countries. For years Iraqi steadily lost ground against the numerically superior but technologically inferior Iranians. In the 1988 the Iraqis changed tactics and by using chemical weapons, massive artillery bombardments and the Republican Guard it made rapid advances rolling back the Iranians until when the War ended they had gained 500 miles of territory. The Waterway was so clogged with silt and debris it was now useless. The war left Iraq with over $80 billion worth of debts mainly to Kuwait. It was these tactics of chemical and artillery bombardment, which the Coalition forces were expecting during the later Gulf war, and these debts, which were the seeds of that future conflict.” MORE HERE
BOTTOM LINE: Thousands of American lives have been seeded to the hope that a birth of freedom in the nations surrounding Israel would occur. Thus far, it has not, however, I am not among those who believe that ANY life can be given to no avail. The sacrifices of these individuals and their families must mean something. I have no doubt, at some point, it will. It saddens me that that day is not today, but hope seeded with so many young lives and honest expectations cannot but produce something good. That hope remains …
Meanwhile, the troops return to their homes, their families, and the nation that honors them. Perhaps we can yet find a way to honor them in a more lasting effort by sharing their sacrifice and joining it. Our nation needs us NOW. Not necessarily to put on the uniform, but certainly to read the Declaration of Independence and other documents that define our Nation. It is OUR responsibility to steer our nation’s leaders. We each have a Voice and we must each use it. We have shied away from political opinion far too long in the name of tolerance or politeness. TALK!!! Talk and listen to what your neighbors say. What are we boiling about? What do we want?
HONESTY REPRESENTATION by MEN AND WOMEN OF INTEGRITY!
That’s what I want! I want to be able to TRUST the words and actions of our leaders, for once! It is not even as important that I agree with them on everything, but I want to be able to TRUST them. That their interests line up with those of the United States of America, whose ideals (as evidenced in the Founding documents) they love and serve.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans served during America’s second war in Iraq. Nearly 4,500 of our best and brightest citizens were killed, with many more wounded. Countless military families were forever changed by the strains of war.
The immeasurable sacrifices of our nation’s troops, veterans, and military families brought this long war to an end. They are national treasures. As the last large convoy of American troops crossed the gate at Iraq’s border with Kuwait, it became more and more clear that they made this historic day possible, not politicians in Washington or Baghdad.
Today, our nation is being challenged. Will we always remember the valiant men and women who served in Iraq? Will all of us step up to help our country’s veterans and families of the fallen? Will the national media start paying attention to the sacrifices of our brave men and women in uniform still fighting in Afghanistan?
I don’t know the answer to these questions. What I do know is that this is a proud day to be an American. Even after an almost nine year war, with another long conflict continuing, the United States military is second to none. In a world full of darkness, America is still the brightest beacon of light.
