I woke up alone, afraid but alone,
In the city that never wakes,
My fear encased me from the unknown
I could only imagine the stakes.
No one in sight, I hugged my fright,
In the city that never wakes,
I shouted aloud, but it bounced off the cloud,
And I thought to nurse all my aches.
A sound of music behind me drew nigh,
In the city that never wakes,
A note a sweetness educed a sweet sigh,
And eased my fearsome quakes.
A note of hope from a word of truth,
In the city that never wakes,
A small, fragile light from a wandering troop,
Helped ease my shadows and shakes.

A classical rhythm to this poem that reminds me of my childhood – although the content is stronger. Well done

Thanks! Yes, I think this one just kind of fell off my tongue in that old sing-songy way the old rhymes used to do! Thanks so much!
