The Pledge of Allegiance

I read an article today about the children in a high school in Colorado reciting the Pledge in Arabic, and replacing “under God” with under Allah. It reminded me of the history of the Pledge, so I thought I’d remind us all.

“The Pledge of Allegiance was written in August 1892 by the socialist minister Francis Bellamy (1855-1931). It was originally published in The Youth’s Companion on September 8, 1892. Bellamy had hoped that the pledge would be used by citizens in any country.

In its original form it read:

“I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

In 1923, the words, “the Flag of the United States of America” were added. At this time it read:

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words “under God,” creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Bellamy’s daughter objected to this alteration. Today it reads:

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Section 4 of the Flag Code states:

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”, should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute.”

The original Bellamy salute, first described in 1892 by Francis Bellamy, who authored the original Pledge, began with a military salute, and after reciting the words “to the flag,” the arm was extended toward the flag.

At a signal from the Principal the pupils, in ordered ranks, hands to the side, face the Flag. Another signal is given; every pupil gives the flag the military salute — right hand lifted, palm downward, to a line with the forehead and close to it. Standing thus, all repeat together, slowly, “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands; one Nation indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.” At the words, “to my Flag,” the right hand is extended gracefully, palm upward, toward the Flag, and remains in this gesture till the end of the affirmation; whereupon all hands immediately drop to the side. The Youth’s Companion, 1892

Shortly thereafter, the pledge was begun with the right hand over the heart, and after reciting “to the Flag,” the arm was extended toward the Flag, palm-down.

In World War II, the salute too much resembled the Nazi salute, so it was changed to keep the right hand over the heart throughout.”

The original pledge was designed as a Socialist tool, but it was also made to be adaptable to any nation. It may well be that we, as Americans, will have to lay claim to the version, the adaptation of the Pledge we want. As for me and my house, we will cling to our God and our guns and the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America under God. As a Vet, my oath never expired, so that, too, continues to be my oath! It is up to us, the People of this nation to DEFINE the nation we want.

Obama's Bill of Rights

Americans need to apprehend that the current administration seeks to replace our Constitution with one similar to that of South Africa. His hatred for all things traditionally “American” mixed with his burgeoning hunger for power fuel his audacity to speak and move against the Constitution that has stood firm in the United States of America for more than 235 years. Though the Election 2012 gave him a questionable victory (winning suspiciously by only 500,000 votes,) He speaks and legislates as though he won an unprecedented landslide. He fully intends to impose his will, his agenda, and his doctrine of “fairness” upon all Americans, like it or not.

Our Founders’ saw this possibility coming and wrote safety measures into the Constitution, if … IF the people of America will but take a stand. If the people of America will but use their God-given minds to grasp the TRUTH. “Fairness” is NOT fair! In fact, “fairness” is, by virtue of its definition, UN-fair and subjective, depending on the values of the one or the group establishing “fairness.”

EXAMPLE: This year’s Superbowl game, in my opinion, showed a marked UN-fairness in the Officiating. I’d be willing to bet Ravens fans think it was quite fair. Who decides what is “fair?”

In contrast, the Founders, enriched by diverse backgrounds, religions, and visions, wrote into the US Constitution a political foundation dependent on a moral people upon which to build a strong and healthy nation of free people. Interestingly, as we have strayed from these founding principles, so we have experienced a decline in economic and social health.

“[T]he United States for the longest time had the highest degree of economic freedom in the world. In as short a period of time ago as 2000, we ranked number 3 behind Hong Kong and Singapore. Now in 2012 we fell down to number 18. And as our economic freedom declines so does our prosperity – 7.9 percent unemployment. In the last decade we’ve actually seen for the first time in American history, the disposable income per capita actually declined. It’s the first time over a ten year period. We’re losing our economic freedom and with it our prosperity.” – John Mackey, Co-CEO Whole Foods

The Principles listed here are found on several other websites, but there is always room for one more. These are worth reading and pondering. We must allow this to get into us so we truly grasp the depth of understanding our Founders brought together in our Constitution. No,it isn’t the Bible, it’s isn’t Divinely written, but it is divinely inspired … because these men asked for inspiration and direction.

Without further ado, here is a list of the 28 Basic Principles of Liberty, as delineated in the 5000 Year Leap. For more info, check HERE. There is a similar list of 7 Basic Principles HERE.

THE FOUNDERS’ BASIC PRINCIPLES of LIBERTY:

  • Principle 1 – The only reliable basis for sound government and just human relations is Natural Law.

Natural law is God’s law. There are certain laws which govern the entire universe, and just as Thomas Jefferson said in the Declaration of Independence, there are laws which govern in the affairs of men which are “the laws of nature and of nature’s God.”

  • Principle 2 – A free people cannot survive under a republican constitution unless they remain virtuous and morally strong.

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.” – Benjamin Franklin

  • Principle 3 – The most promising method of securing a virtuous people is to elect virtuous leaders.

“Neither the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt. He therefore is the truest friend to the liberty of his country who tries most to promote its virtue, and who … will not suffer a man to be chosen into any office of power and trust who is not a wise and virtuous man.” – Samuel Adams

  • Principle 4 – Without religion the government of a free people cannot be maintained.

“Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports…. And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion.” – George Washington

  • Principle 5 – All things were created by God, therefore upon him all mankind are equally dependent, and to him they are equally responsible.

The American Founding Fathers considered the existence of the Creator as the most fundamental premise underlying all self-evident truth. They felt a person who boasted he or she was an atheist had just simply failed to apply his or her divine capacity for reason and observation.

  • Principle 6 – All mankind were created equal.

The Founders knew that in these three ways, all mankind are theoretically treated as:

    Equal before God.
    Equal before the law.
    Equal in their rights.

  • Principle 7 – The proper role of government is to protect equal rights, not provide equal things.

The Founders recognized that the people cannot delegate to their government any power except that which they have the lawful right to exercise themselves.

  • Principle 8 – Mankind are endowed by God with certain unalienable rights.

“Those rights, then, which God and nature have established, and are therefore called natural rights, such as are life and liberty, need not the aid of human laws to be more effectually invested in every man than they are; neither do they receive any additional strength when declared by the municipal [or state] laws to be inviolable. On the contrary, no human legislation has power to abridge or destroy them, unless the owner [of the right] shall himself commit some act that amounts to a forfeiture.” – William Blackstone

  • Principle 9 – To protect human rights, God has revealed a code of divine law.

“The doctrines thus delivered we call the revealed or divine law, and they are to be found only in the Holy Scriptures. These precepts, when revealed, are found by comparison to be really a part of the original law of nature, as they tend in all their consequences to man’s felicity.” – William Blackstone

  • Principle 10 – The God-given right to govern is vested in the sovereign authority of the whole people.

“The fabric of American empire ought to rest on the solid basis of the consent of the people. The streams of national power ought to flow immediately from that pure, original fountain of all legislative authority.” – Alexander Hamilton

  • Principle 11 – The majority of the people may alter or abolish a government which has become tyrannical.

“Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes … but when a long train of abuses and usurpations … evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.” – Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence

  • Principle 12 – The United States of America shall be a republic.

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the republic for which it stands….”

  • Principle 13 – A Constitution should protect the people from the frailties of their rulers.

“If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary…. [But lacking these] you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.” – James Madison

  • Principle 14 – Life and liberty are secure only so long as the rights of property are secure.

John Locke reasoned that God gave the earth and everything in it to the whole human family as a gift. Therefore the land, the sea, the acorns in the forest, the deer feeding in the meadow belong to everyone “in common.” However, the moment someone takes the trouble to change something from its original state of nature, that person has added his ingenuity or labor to make that change. Herein lies the secret to the origin of “property rights.”

  • Principle 15 – The highest level of prosperity occurs when there is a free-market economy and a minimum of government regulations.

Prosperity depends upon a climate of wholesome stimulation with four basic freedoms in operation:

    The Freedom to try.
    The Freedom to buy.
    The Freedom to sell.
    The Freedom to fail.

  • Principle 16 – The government should be separated into three branches.

“I call you to witness that I was the first member of the Congress who ventured to come out in public, as I did in January 1776, in my Thoughts on Government … in favor of a government with three branches and an independent judiciary. This pamphlet, you know, was very unpopular. No man appeared in public to support it but yourself.” – John Adams

  • Principle 17 – A system of checks and balances should be adopted to prevent the abuse of power by the different branches of government.

“It will not be denied that power is of an encroaching nature and that it ought to be effectually restrained from passing the limits assigned to it.” – James Madison

  • Principle 18 – The unalienable rights of the people are most likely to be preserved if the principles of government are set forth in a written Constitution.

The structure of the American system is set forth in the Constitution of the United States and the only weaknesses which have appeared are those which were allowed to creep in despite the Constitution.

  • Principle 19 – Only limited and carefully defined powers should be delegated to government, all others being retained by the people.

The Tenth Amendment is the most widely violated provision of the bill of rights. If it had been respected and enforced America would be an amazingly different country than it is today. This amendment provides:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

  • Principle 20 – Efficiency and dispatch require that the government operate according to the will of the majority, but constitutional provisions must be made to protect the rights of the minority.

“Every man, by consenting with others to make one body politic under one government, puts himself under an obligation to every one of that society to submit to the determination of the majority, and to be concluded [bound] by it.” – John Locke

  • Principle 21 – Strong local self-government is the keystone to preserving human freedom.

“The way to have good and safe government is not to trust it all to one, but to divide it among the many, distributing to every one exactly the functions he is competent [to perform best]. – Thomas Jefferson

  • Principle 22 – A free people should be governed by law and not by the whims of men.

“The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom. For in all the states of created beings, capable of laws, where there is no law there is no freedom. For liberty is to be free from restraint and violence of others, which cannot be where there is no law.” – John Locke

  • Principle 23 – A free society cannot survive as a republic without a broad program of general education.

“They made an early provision by law that every town consisting of so many families should be always furnished with a grammar school. They made it a crime for such a town to be destitute of a grammar schoolmaster for a few months, and subjected it to a heavy penalty. So that the education of all ranks of people was made the care and expense of the public, in a manner that I believe has been unknown to any other people, ancient or modern. The consequences of these establishments we see and feel every day [written in 1765]. A native of America who cannot read and write is as rare … as a comet or an earthquake.” John Adams

  • Principle 24 – A free people will not survive unless they stay strong.

“To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.” – George Washington

  • Principle 25 – “Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations — entangling alliances with none.”- Thomas Jefferson, given in his first inaugural address.
  • Principle 26 – The core unit which determines the strength of any society is the family; therefore the government should foster and protect its integrity.

“There is certainly no country in the world where the tie of marriage is more respected than in America, or where conjugal happiness is more highly or worthily appreciated.” Alexis de Tocqueville

  • Principle 27 – The burden of debt is as destructive to human freedom as subjugation by conquest.

“We are bound to defray expenses [of the war] within our own time, and are unauthorized to burden posterity with them…. We shall all consider ourselves morally bound to pay them ourselves and consequently within the life [expectancy] of the majority.” – Thomas Jefferson

  • Principle 28 – The United States has a manifest destiny to eventually become a glorious example of God’s law under a restored Constitution that will inspire the entire human race.

The Founders sensed from the very beginning that they were on a divine mission. Their great disappointment was that it didn’t all come to pass in their day, but they knew that someday it would. John Adams wrote:

“I always consider the settlement of America with reverence and wonder, as the opening of a grand scene and design in Providence for the illumination of the ignorant, and the emancipation of the slavish part of mankind all over the earth.”

America … an experiment in Self-government! Will it work? Will it be able to correct itself when the power gets our of balance? Time will tell.

I leave you, dear reader, with this speech that has gone viral! Listen carefully to this brave American. He has a lot to say!

Disrespect for Personal Property, Personal Achievement, and Personal Dreams

First President to, Personal Achievement, Personal Dreams, Personal Property, Socialism, Socialism Is as Socialism Does

BLOGGER’S NOTE: All too sadly, a significant segment of the American people cling vehemently to their supposed “Hope & Change.” Some are uncertain enough to be reached by facts, but still many, in spite of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, believe President Obama has accomplished, is accomplishing, or will accomplish something worthwhile if allowed to “finish what he started.” If I have the opportunity to ask what that might be, I have yet to receive an answer of substance. Most, I fear, simply do not get it. Jobs are not created by raising taxes on the job creators or by Presidential picks for bailouts(with tax dollars.) Healthcare cannot be “fairly” mandated upon those who cannot afford it in the first place – it is NOT a human right guaranteed by God or the Constitution (Emergency rooms treat ANYONE.) To say (and believe) “You didn’t build that!” is to denounce hard work, creativity, and perseverance and replace them with a disrespect for personal property, personal achievement, and personal dreams! I hesitate to imply stupidity, but instead assume it is naiveté. If any of these individuals stumble upon this article, please identify the redeeming accomplishment(s) from the list below, or add your own. This is asked out of genuine curiosity – not mockery!

    Socialism Is as Socialism Does

By Dr. Robert R. Owens via Patriot Post

Ronald Reagan taught us, “How do you tell a communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.“

Barack Obama’s mentor as a young man was communist party member Frank Marshall Davis. As a community organizer he was a follower and promoter of the communist fellow-traveler Saul Alinsky’s methods and goals. As a professional in Hyde Park he associated with socialist radicals such as Bill Ayers. As an up-and-coming Chicago Politician he attended the church of Reverend Jeremiah Wright, an outspoken proponent of the socialist Black Liberation Theology. As president he appointed communist Van Jones to be one of his many Czars. Mr. Obama says he is not a socialist. However, simple logic tells us if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck you can be relatively certain it’s a duck.

Mr. Obama has told us that he seeks to be a transformational president like his idol FDR. He was bold enough to tell us just days before the election in 2008 that he would fundamentally transform America. In just one term he has accomplished much along the way to changing us from what we have always been into what the Progressives have always wanted us to be.

How has Barak Obama transformed us? Into what is he transforming us? A look at his impressive list of firsts as president of these United States points in the direction he is herding us (lists of Mr. Obama’s firsts are found numerous places):

    • First President to have a Social Security number from a state where he has never lived
    • First President to preside over a cut to the credit-rating of the United States
    • First President to violate the War Powers Act
    • First President to be held in contempt of court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico
    • First President to require that all Americans purchase a product from a third party as a condition of citizenship (Obamacare)
    • First President to spend a trillion dollars on shovel-ready jobs and then joke that shovel ready wasn’t quite as shovel ready as he thought
    • First President to abrogate bankruptcy law to turn over control of companies to his union supporters
    • First President to by-pass Congress and implement laws such as the Dream Act and Cap-n-Trade through executive fiat
    • First President to demand a company hand-over $20 billion to one of his political appointees
    • First President to tell a CEO of a major corporation (GM) to resign
    • First President to terminate America’s ability to put a man in space
    • First President to cancel the National Day of Prayer and to say that America is no longer a Christian nation
    • First President to have a law signed by an auto-pen without being present
    • First President to send the families of fallen service members a form letter signed with an auto-pen
    • First President to arbitrarily declare an existing law unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it (DOMA)
    • First President to threaten insurance companies if they publicly spoke-out on the reasons for their rate increases
    • First President to tell a major manufacturing company in which state it is allowed to locate a factory
    • First President to file lawsuits against the states he swore an oath to protect (AZ, WI, OH, IN)
    • First President to actively try to bankrupt an American industry (coal)
    • First President to fire an inspector general of Ameri-Corps for catching one of his friends in a corruption case
    • First President to appoint 45 czars to his office
    • First President to golf more than 100 times separate times in his first three and a half years in office
    • First President to hide his medical, educational and travel records
    • First President to win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing to earn it
    • First President to go on multiple global “apology tours” and concurrent “insult our friends” tours
    • First President to go on 16 lavish vacations, including date nights and Wednesday evening White House parties for his friends paid for by the taxpayer
    • First President to have 22 personal servants (taxpayer funded) for his wife
    • First President to keep a dog trainer on retainer for $102,000 a year at taxpayer expense
    • First President to publicly read from the Quran & tell us the early morning call of the Azan (Islamic call to worship) is the most beautiful sound on earth
    • First President to recite the Muslim call to prayer in perfect Arabic
    • First President to tell the military men and women that they should pay for their own private insurance
    • First President to side with a foreign nation over one of America’s 50 states (Mexico vs. Arizona)

Mr. Obama is leading us from being the first among nations to being just another vote in the United Nations. Now there’s a level playing field for you. And now it’s time for another election, some say our most important, some say perhaps our last.

In many ways this election cycle is refreshing. For generations the Progressives have pretended to be something they are not to win elections. They have pretended to be dedicated to the American dream of personal liberty, economic freedom and the belief that America was different from other nations, that as the world’s first and most enduring modern experiment in a republic based on limited government we were exceptional. Although the policies of the Progressives have always been at odds with this assumed identity at least every election cycle they would tip their hat to the America of our fathers and portray themselves as a Thomas Jefferson or an Andrew Jackson.

PEOPLE of FAITH: It’s Democracy v Socialism

    Democracy v Socialism, Socialism

PEOPLE of FAITH, brothers and sisters, for decades we’ve been herded into our churches and told to keep our faith to ourselves. We’ve learned how to live our faith quietly, unobtrusively. But today, there are millions of Americans waiting to see the LIFE of Jesus – the relevance of Jesus in our lives. The Lost are seeking and not finding … because we are hidden away, keeping our faith to ourselves, locked behind closed church doors. It’s way past time we step OUT … Jesus didn’t got to the Temple to minister, he went to the streets. He went where the people are and he didn’t tell they were sinners going to hell! He LOVED them.

Our nation is at a monumental crossroads. President Obama is an Communist/Socialist. If you are familiar with Marx’s Communist Manifesto, you know it sounds good on paper. Every person’s needs are met by the government. There is no want. There is also no room for God in Communism because government is god. There is no morality in Communism because every one is the same – equality. The government decides just about everything for you: where you will live, where you will work, how much you will be paid. Do you remember the Berlin Wall and the numbers of people who died trying to escape communist rule? Communism fails because human nature needs purpose and communism takes that away. You don’t get paid more for doing a better job. Yo don’t get a bigger home for working longer hours. You get paid what the gov’t decides the job is worth. Each year, the comfort level of the “PEOPLE” is reduced because revenues decline because production declines because there is no incentive to produce more.

Our nation needs men and women of character who are paying attention, educating themselves, and thinking clearly about the issues and the consequences. Our choice in this election is not a perfect choice. Jesus isn’t here running for office – and if he did, I doubt he’d be elected in this nation at the moment. Corruption runs deep, but sadly, it runs nearly as deep in our churches and homes. We live in this world, and are polluted by it, no matter how hard we try or how aware we are. We are feeble. So are our leaders. We have failed over the past decades to pay much attention, as believers, to what has been happening to pull society to the left.

Presidents Wilson and Roosevelt started “socialist” programs intended to FOOL the public into believing the Depression was over, but if you check the facts, “With freer markets, balanced budgets, and lower taxes, Wood [Sears, Roebuck and Company Chairman Robert E. Wood] was right. Unemployment was only 3.9 percent in 1946, and it remained at roughly that level during most of the next decade. The Great Depression was over.” All we, as Americans, need to do is look at history – accurately written history for the answers.

This election of 2012 is not about party, not about left or right, but about ideology. It’s about what direction we, as believers, want our nation to go. Some think compassion is the same as government programs, but again, if you check the facts, the programs designed to help the needy actually HELP them remain needy. They are NOT a hand up. The current programs offer no incentive to find work or got to school, so why should they? There are legitimate needs, but I ask you this, my friends. Did Jesus tell the sick to go apply for aid from the government, or did he take care of their need himself. He gave us the illistration of the “Good Samaritan.” In this parable, did the Good Samaritan call the Dept of Social justice to take care of the injured man, or did he take care if him himself? When did Jesus EVER send a sick or needy person to the government programs to take care of their need? NEVER! He did it himself or told his disciples to do it themselves. If we abdicate this responsibility, we are abdicating our responsibility to obey Christ’s commands to help the needy, the poor, and the widows.

James 1: 26-27 (The Message) “Anyone who sets himself up as “religious” by talking a good game is self-deceived. This kind of religion is hot air and only hot air. Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world.”

Jesus tells US, not the government, to take care of the needs of the poor. US – you and me with OUR money, OUR time & talents because it is giving out the mercy & grace we have received. It is sharing the Love of God. The Government is not responsible for the poor. You and I are. The government cannot afford to take care of the poor, as we are seeing clearly today. It is time for the CHURCH – Catholic, Protestant, Jewish – whatever faith motivates us – to rise up and take this challenge upon ourselves. “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (Js 1:22 NKJV) The rest, is up to God!

The Distinction between Government and Society

Democracy vs Socialism, morally conscious society, Personal responsibility, Socialism

“Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all. We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain.”
    ― Frédéric Bastiat, The Law

May I ask you to please read the above quote … again? So when we-the-people object to a socialist government mandated health care system, and it is touted that we are ready to push gramma over the cliff, the distinction between society and government is null. When the socialists find more and more uses for our money, more and more programs to exercise increased numbers of regulations, and more and more excuses for undisciplined spending, they have failed to yield to the society’s need for self-action.

What Socialism fails to comprehend is the very nature of mankind. Humans need a PURPOSE to survive. Without that purpose, we shrivel and die. There is no reason to get up in the morning. No reason to take care of myself or anything I “have.” If I have earned nothing, CAN earn nothing, and I am given a house, but don’t know how to make it a HOME, will I really TRY? No, no reason to work, no reason to care, no reason to try. If I receive the same compensation whether I work or not, why would I work? If I own the same property whether I purchase it with “my” money or the state provides it, why would I work at it?

Just because I do not want Obamacare, does that mean I want to throw gramma over the cliff? Heck no! I just want her to make her own choices with her health care professionals. Just because I don’t think the government is the best source for regulating education, doesn’t mean I want everyone to be uneducated. Rather, I’d like the NEA and others educators to validate individual differences rather than trying to make us all clones! Just because I dislike the degree to which the government is now reaching into my livingroom & bedroom, doesn’t mean security measures are not necessary. However, more responsible, more effective, and more cost effective methods are available but beyond the political veil. The choices for how we live our lives from beginning to end do not belong to the Government! How I live is MY choice! How I fund my life is my choice! how I manage my funds is MY choice … and if I mess up, um … guess what! It’s MY fault, but indeed, that’s what church emergency funds or the Red Cross or Salvation Army funds are for! To bail me out in an “EMERGENCY!” But that’s also what friends and family are for!

Government cannot take the place of a morally conscious society. There is a vast difference between increased taxes to support increased numbers of Americans on welfare and food stamps, and individual Americans donating time, energy, and money to help their neighbors. The former is Socialism and removes the individual responsibility to “CARE” from society and places it on government! Which is more effective? NO QUESTION! The individual who donates time at the homeless shelter, the family that helps at the food bank, the teens who distribute blankets and coffee under the local “bridge,” the teacher who donates her time teaching adults to read … and many, many, many more! THESE are the compassionate ones in our nation. A Government cannot be “compassionate!”

“Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness…” Paine argues that government is put in place to protect us from our baser selves.”

    Thomas Paine, Common Sense

“It’s amazing to me how many people think that voting to have the government give poor people money is compassion. Helping poor and suffering people is compassion. Voting for our government to use guns [or taxes] to give money to help poor and suffering people is immoral, self-righteous, bullying laziness.

“People need to be fed, medicated, educated, clothed, and sheltered, and if we’re compassionate we’ll help them, but you get no moral credit for forcing other people to do what you think is right. There is great joy in helping people, but no joy in doing it at gunpoint.” ~ Penn Jillette (a prominent atheist)

Now, if only other clerics, other leaders, other Americans would apprehend this simple TRUTH!

    An Optimistic America

    An Optimistic America

Posted on 05/22/2012 by By Alan Caruba @ papundits

“I have always been an optimist. And, I hope, a realist. Of late though, I have been entertaining some pessimist thoughts about the future of America. This runs contrary to one of the enduring attributes of Americans because, like me, they too are optimists.”

    He goes on to say,

“The problems Americans face today have been put in place by successive Congresses over decades and the blame falls equally on both Democrats and Republicans. Too much socialism!

“The 2008 crisis of the housing mortgage and the banking meltdown is the result of government sponsored agencies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that own half of all the mortgage loans made. There is no reason why the government should be in the mortgage business that for most of the nation’s history was the providence of the banking industry. It was the “bundled” mortgage “assets” that seduced many banking institutions to purchase them.

“The nation’s tax system is shot through with special breaks to various elements of the nation’s economy and includes the highest corporate tax of any nation on earth. It requires legions of lobbyists to maintain the special favors and it ignores the lower corporate tax rates that have made other nations more competitive than ours in the global marketplace.

“The problem with America is not that it has millionaires and billionaires, but that it does not have more of them. They and other wealthy Americans pay the bulk of all income taxes while some forty percent of Americans pay nothing. That level of inequality is criminal. So is the tax system. It must be reformed as it threatens to make criminals of all who must deal with it.

“The failure to reform Social Security and Medicare is yet another problem threatening the economy as a smaller workforce is required to pay for a growing aged population. A recent Rasmussen poll found that 64% of voters would prefer a government with fewer services and lower taxes. The findings are consistent with findings since 2006. Just 25% want more services.

“The hollowing out of the nation’s military power is a major concern because a strong military is vital for the defense of the nation and, by extension, peace in the world.

“Ours has a geriatric fleet of fighter and transport airplanes and a naval fleet that hasn’t been so small since the end of World War II. Our missile system is growing moldy in its silos. Our Army, Marines, National Guard and Reserves are worn out from constant rotations in and out the Middle Eastern conflicts in a world where asymmetrical warfare is the order of the day, not massed armies.

“Our society is suffering from the erosion of the most fundamental tradition—marriage. The Obama administration announced it will not enforce the Defense of Marriage Act and the President’s endorsement of same-sex marriage is abhorrent.

“Popular culture has degraded to films that are either cartoons or based on characters from comic books. Movies made for adults are becoming a vanishing genre. The nightly fare of situation comedies is filled with characters for whom casual sex is the norm. The nation remains a mecca for drugs at the same time our southern border remains superficially protected while drug cartels fill the streets of Mexico with the beheaded bodies of their rivals.

“Our educational system has been so debased by the teacher’s unions since the 1960s that it is commonplace to learn that our children continue to lag behind all other nations in the fundamental knowledge of reading, writing, science, history and all other fields of knowledge on which a successful nation depends.

“The nation’s unions are bankrupting states with their excessive demands for salaries, health care options, and pensions. They must be curbed and we are witnessing states like New Jersey and Wisconsin that have begun to reduce this drain on public treasuries.

“Lastly, the programs advanced by wealthy environmental organizations such as Friends of the Earth, the Sierra Club, and others have imposed a vast matrix of laws and regulations that are putting at risk our ability to conduct any business enterprise. The Greens are successfully denying Americans access to reserves of coal, oil, and natural gas and have been seeking to erode property rights, the keystone of capitalism.”

A prefect opportunity to President Obama to BE a leader and take an outspoken stand on the behavior of these mobs … like so many other opportunities, has been shoved aside. Maybe when he is all rested up, eh?

Folks, I believe human beings are responsible for their behavior.  However, as America's first black president, fair or unfair, Obama's presidency comes with enormous responsibility in terms of its influence on black youths.  This is why it is so unfortunate that American black youths' ultimate role model is a characterless, race-baiting political hack. While I am not saying president Obama is responsible for the epidemic of black youth flash-mob … Read More

Burying Obama – American Thinker. By J.R. Dunn Let me hasten to make it clear before the Secret Service kicks the door in: we're not speaking of the three-dimensional, physical Obama, but the image of Obama created by the DNC, the media, and assorted political mercenaries to sell him and his agenda to an unsuspecting nation.  We need to rid ourselves of Obama as an influence, as an example, as a lens through which to view the world, as a figure … Read More
