Glance through this list and a concept begins to emerge of CHARACTER. There is little talk these days of character as evidenced by my adult daughter asking me the meaning. “What is Character,” she asked. If we “fix” ourselves and our kids, the world will take care of itself! Maybe if Americans spent more thinking about their/our character, we could actually FIX whats wrong in our nation, and the world will take care of itself because what works for us as individuals, will also work for our nation and others.

My answer incorporated much of the ideas above. Character suggests ideals: An ideal is a model of something perfect or without equal. As an adjective, ideal describes this ultimate standard for excellence, or something that exists only as an idea.

So, what is our “ultimate standard for excellence?” Do we look to a man like Minnesota Vikings’ Adrian Peterson who has fathered at least 7 children out of wedlock? Or the New England Patriots’ Aaron Hernandez? Or maybe Kim Kardashian is more appropriate? How about Chris Brown? Beyonce? Or maybe we choose President OBAMA?

Typically, our young people look to celebrities and athletes as “heroes” because of the shortage of real heroes … or maybe there are still plenty of real heroes, but our perspective has changed?

We each have a lifetime to build our character. We choose the definition of our character by our affections, by where we spend our time and/or our money. Most Americans surround themselves with … things. Where we spend our time and where we put our money are the greatest indicators of our character. Character is our most enduring legacy, so we each must decide how we want to be remembered and then work toward that goal. As “Honest Abe” Lincoln is remembered for his honesty, and Nixon is remembered for the Watergate debacle, each of us has the freedom to define our legacy, our character. Will we choose the popular “Kardashian” or “Peterson” standard of excellence, or the nobility of President Washington, the courage of Chris Kyle, or the boldness of Tim Tebow, our character is in process. What YOU decide will affect the future of your personal legacy, but also the future of America.

The fact that we use and accept both the words and the concepts behind “political correctness,” demonstrates our lack of social awareness or lack of courage, one or the other!

AN attitude, word, or behavior is either Right or Wrong based on its merits, not its fashion-ability. This is just one more way that the government manipulates the population to change according to a particular social or political agenda – by declaring acceptable and unacceptable thoughts, behaviors, and ideas. This is not a NEW thing! Historical tyrants of the past instituted their own key words, ideas, and behaviors based of their goals or vision. Hitler introduced the idea of blaming the Jews for the financial difficulties of Germany in the early 1930’s culminating in the ruthless murder of 6 million Jewish people. “Stalin sent millions of people to their deaths, forced defendants at the show trials during his long rule to confess to crimes he himself had committed and inundated Soviet archives with forged and doctored documents.”

How effective is PC as a MOB RULE/THUG tool? Think for minute. Since President Obama was first elected,

• he has done a flip-flop on “Gay marriage,” confusing his own party, and creating yet another rift in the American population by pitting gays (and their liberal acceptors) against the mainstream public who either do not care about the conflict or do not grasp its hidden agenda of control.
• he has fed the flame of racism 100 times over, calling all good Blacks to support him and telling all Blacks who do not support him they betray they own people. Sorry, but we are ONE PEOPLE – ONE AMERICA!!!! He is the Divider-in-Chief!
• he paid SEIU members to orchestrate “OCCUPY Wall St” as a tool to create chaos and further division, blaming “greedy” wealthy bankers for their lack. Ironically, while these protesters blamed the bankers for their greed, they were apparently completely blind to their own greed as they coveted what the bankers had worked for but, of course, the occupiers weren’t willing to work for the same wealth.
• he has elevated devotees of Islam , whose very definition calls for either conversion or death of the infidel, to the prominent positions in the DOJ, DHS, and CIA. There are known operators high up in all of our security departments and intelligence operations. He has surrounded himself with members of the Muslim Brotherhood, further evidenced more recently by his “Sequester gift” of F-16 fighters to Egypt’s MB government. While he makes uber allowances for adherents of Islam to practice their “religion,” the door to followers of Jesus Christ to worship as they wish are closing in rapid number(re: headline photo).

We-the-people are INDIVIDUALS, and as such, we have the propensity for good and evil, and beneficial or harmful attitudes, beliefs, behaviors. The FREE PRESS enabled by our Constitution is supposed to present various events and issues from a variety of positions to help individual citizens educate themselves and decide their personal view. When Political correctness is thrown into the mix, and simultaneously the media becomes a team of journalistic thugs freely twisting and manipulating the “news” for the agenda of the “majority” party, clearly, the people are VICTIMS of POLITICAL ABUSE! It is nothing less than MOB RULE. This is specifically why our FOUNDERS established America as a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC, NOT a Democracy! But the KEY to a Republic is the participation of the People! Oooops!

“A community declines when the majority of its citizens become selfish, and under this influence it slowly dismantles all the restraints upon self-indulgence established by manners, customs, beliefs and law: tradition. (See the law of reverse civilization) As each subsequent generation of selfish citizens inherits control of the community, it takes its opportunity to abandon more of the irksome restraints that genius and wisdom had installed. The proponents of this social demolition achieve their irrational purpose by publicly embracing absurdity through slogans while vilifying any who do not support their stance. The purpose of the slogan is to enshrine irrational fears, or fancies, as truth through the use of presumptuous words, so public pronouncement:
1. Dissembles the real nature of the claim: example – “FORWARD!“
2. Identifies any dissenters as enemies of the truth – “Tolerance” or “COEXIST”, that is People who contradict “FORWARD are blinded by prejudice and moving “backwards.”
3. Acts as an excuse for any crimes committed in its name” – “Racists” or “Terrorists”, that is People who contradict this claim are trouble-making bigots, which makes them enemies of the community, if not humanity, and deserving persecution!
“Now, in the late 1990s, the results of being bourgeois (retaining traditional notions), is being labelled racist, sexist etc. and risk losing your job, your reputation, being jostled in the street, being subject to judicial penalty and death threats. And it is this very extremity of reaction that has won media attention and the name Political Correctness, though the reaction will become even more unpleasant with the next generation.”

America is different than most other nations in that our Constitution claims “Providence,” or “our Creator” as the Source of our Basic Human Rights. These then, are written as the Bill of Rights, which, incidentally, our new CIA Director, John Brennan omitted from the draft Constitution he was sworn into office upon. Odd, don’t you think? That’s like removing the spinal column from a human being! The fact that our Rights issue from God means that the government is not their source, and therefore cannot rightly take them away. Most other nations have the Source of their Law, their human rights, as the head of political power or the seat of government.

While many interchange the words “Democracy” and “Republic,” they are two significant different ideas. “By definition, a republic is a representative form of government that is ruled according to a charter, or constitution, and a democracy is a government that is ruled according to the will of the majority.” Vive la différence!

The Founders were extremely knowledgeable about the issue of democracy and feared a democracy as much as a monarchy. They understood that the only authority that can take away the people’s freedom is their own government, either by being too weak to protect them from external threats (anarchy – chaos) or by becoming too powerful and taking over every aspect of life (tyranny). In a Republic, the sovereignty resides with the people themselves. In a Republic, one may act on his own (as an individual) or through his representatives when he chooses to solve a problem. The people have no obligation to the government; instead, the government is a servant of the people, and obliged to its owner, We the People.

Many politicians as well as citizens have lost sight of that fact. Instead, we allow the government to dictate what size drink we may buy, our use of baby formula, or cigarettes. We are letting politicians tell us to compromise on our 2nd Amendment Rights to Keep and bear arms to protect the other rights granted us by God. We are bowing to a government dictate for public funded “free” birth control to low income people while they mock our freedom to worship and live morally as we choose.

• The Freedom of Religion means I, the individual, get to choose whether I live by one of the known religions or none at all, but it is individual choice, not federal mandate.
• Right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness means I, the individual, have the freedom to pursue my dreams, my goals, my ambition as far as my energy and resources may take me. They do NOT guarantee me happiness or unlimited resources.
• Just because I, the individual, am guaranteed the Right to keep and bear arms, doesn’t mean I HAVE to keep or bear arms. It only means I have the freedom to do so, if I wish.

We are without an anchor in a violent storm with the media and politicians TELLING us what is “acceptable” and what is not. They are BULLYING us, my friends! They are bullying us into giving up our FREEDOM!

Freedom means choice. The liberal left, in their misunderstanding of the Constitution, is determined to restrict and regulate as much of American life as they can. That is not freedom, nor is it security they provide by their invasion into our personal lives. They do not believe the average American is capable of making reasonably intelligent decisions concerning Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I do! Like Sen Feinstein on the 2nd Amendment, they believe they have been given the RIGHT (by election or Divine Right of Kings?) to make decisions FOR us. Rather than applying Constitutional law to facilitate the individual’s life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, they are working toward greater and deeper control of our lives, for our own good, they promise, yet they are not willing to abide by the regulations and restrictions they impose on us.

How much more abuse will it take, my friends? The politically correct attitudes and nuances of today will become the regulations and mandates of tomorrow. Let’s take our place in this noble experiment and require our government to SUPPORT & DEFEND the CONSTITUTION they SWORE to uphold or change it in the prescribed manner! Let’s hold their feet to the fire … journalists, too, and require them to DO their JOB!!! Let’s remind them we understand the Constitution, and we know our place in keeping our leaders accountable!

Liberals have worked very hard to rewrite history. They know if hard-working Americans understand America’s past and how America became so prosperous, the lies, twists and distractions they present will not be enough to bury America’s greatness.

The men we call “Founders” were, each and every one, brilliant, eloquent, and worldly men well-read in the Ancients and particularly the writers and thinkers of the Enlightenment that lauded Reason over all. They were men of science and intelligence, but also men of faith. They were not all Christians, but even in their religious disagreement, they agreed that for our Experiment in Self-governance to succeed, men and women must be committed to self-betterment. They understood that liberty can only be upheld by men and women of character.

By age sixteen, Washington had copied out by hand, 110 Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation. They are based on a set of rules composed by French Jesuits in 1595. He sought to memorize them and make them a part of himself. If you browse them today, some seem strange, yet the majority of them are still worth working toward.

General Washington counted himself inadequate as a military leader. He counted himself modestly as a businessman, so it isn’t surprising he saw himself inadequate to assume the Presidency of our fledgling nation. It was Washington’s humility that drove him to his knees to seek the help of Providence!

Contrast this with the arrogance of President Obama. His entire philosophy, the beliefs behind his policies and overall agenda, is that he and his elite sympathizers know better than We-the-People what is the duty or responsibility of government. Faced with the Benghazi incident, 6 months of investigations have not yet uncovered exactly where President Obama was wile Americans called repeatedly for help. Two Russian bombers, capable of carrying nuclear cruise missiles, circled the US island of Guam in the Western Pacific this week. U.S. Air Force F-15 jets scrambled from Andersen Air Force Base on Guam to intercept the bombers while President Obama went golfing.

General Washington, and the Congress elected with him, wanted only to fascilitate our individual pursuit of happiness, to serve the needs of the public, not the wants. They understood the essence of tyranny is government reaching into the daily lives of the people in an attempt to exert control.

You might remember that after the brilliant leadership during the long, agonizing years of the Revolutionary War, both the public and the sitting Congress attempted to crown General Washington King of the infant nation.

“He gave up power not once but twice – at the end of the revolutionary war, when he resigned his military commission and returned to Mount Vernon, and again at the end of his second term as president, when he refused entreaties to seek a third term. In doing so, he set a standard for American presidents that lasted until the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt, whose taste for power was stronger than the 150 years of precedent set by Washington.”

It is extraordinarily difficult for us today to relate to such humility in a true public servant. For the most part, those WE have sent to Washington DC as our Representatives are anything but humble, and certainly not Public Servants. It is a foreign concept. In fact, the whole idea of ” service” has been trompled and trampled, twisted and redefined with a self-serving theme.

Audacity of hope, or arrogance of power? “Webster’s defines arrogance as the “offensive exhibition of assumed or real superiority,” an “overbearing pride,” an “imperious” nature. One only has to look to our government to find the embodiment of arrogance — in our elected officials, our Congress and our president.

“Arrogance is not exclusive to liberals, moderates or conservatives. Arrogance is usually accompanied by one form of superiority or another. The arrogance of the ignorant “nobody” is as dangerous as that of the intellectual “somebody.” Both deserve each other’s company. The difference is the decisions of the “some bodies” can affect all the other “nobodies.”

Can you imagine General George Washington coming on the scene, riding into DC to address Congress today? None loved him more than the men who served under him in the unimaginable years of war. Yet, with great grace and humility, General Washington reminded Congress of the reasons for the War they had endured. He reminded them of the tyranny they had experienced and the lives sown for Liberty’s cause. How does this compare with the reports from those who have worked with President Obama?

OK, so is this PROGRESS? Evolution? Or is it moral decay that has brought us to the eve of destruction?

“When Xerxes I of Persia demanded that the Spartans lay down their arms and surrender at the Battle of Thermopylae, King Leonidas I responded with defiance, “Molon labe”, “come and take!”. While Leonidas’ 300 could not stand forever against this invading force, love of country and a fervent desire to protect Sparta and its citizens from an enslaving tyrant gave the Spartan warriors the impetus they needed to fight to the death of every last man.

“Throughout history we see example after example of people standing against tyrants. America is no exception. We fought the Revolutionary war to gain our freedom from a king who used the newfound wealth from the colonies to help fund his kingdom, all the while treating us like the redheaded step children. We threw off those shackles in defiance of tyranny. Thus began the great American Experiment. There was born the greatest nation in the world.

“Our Founding Fathers were well acquainted with history and her ugly past. They crafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights with that history, including their own recent emancipation, in mind. Understanding that men are born in liberty, endowed by their Creator, the Constitution was written to protect those God given rights. These venerated documents are timeless.

“The second amendment is our greatest protection to help us guard against the infringement of the others. While progressives scream that we need fewer guns to be safe, nothing could be further from the truth. And once again, history bears us out. In every instance of tyrannical takeover, the first act of the invader has been to disarm its people. But you know that history. It has been spoken of innumerable times. We must admit that not every case of disarmament has been by a tyrant. There are also historic cases of nations taking guns from its citizens because they believed it would make them safer. And in every case, once again, they have been proven wrong.

“In 1997 Australia instituted a national gun ban and citizens turned in more than 640,000 guns for destruction. What was the result? Accidental gun deaths are up 300% from the pre ban years, robbery and armed robbery have increased 20%, the assault rate has increased 200%, and homicides with firearms are up 171% in the state of Victoria alone. What does that tell you folks? That the criminals STILL have guns, that law abiding citizens are now unable to protect themselves on a level playing field, that the black market for illegal guns is thriving, and that gun bans only hurt a nations citizenry and help criminals.

“U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland, recently added his support to President Obama’s call for gun control measures. Liberals across the nation have convinced their mindless sheeple that “assault weapons” need to be taken out of the hands of everyday Americans and that no one has need of a magazine that holds more than ten rounds.

“Time and again I have asked the question, “what is an assault weapon?” and have been answered with dumbfounded silence. I own a Mossberg 500. It has a pistol grip and a chainsaw handle. I have opted to remove the chainsaw handle and add an Archangel tactical stock to it. When it is finished it will look pretty awesome. I like to accessorize my guns, much like I enjoy wearing earrings and having a wide selection of purses. It doesn’t change the nature of the gun. It is a semi automatic 12 gauge shotgun. That is all it will ever be. But it will look like what liberals think of as an assault weapon. And so they would ban it if we would let them. Sadly, we must fight the good fight largely because of their lack of education and willingness to understand. Like a child throwing a tantrum, they want it their way. What I wouldn’t give to have just one gun Nazi give a logical answer to my logical questions on the subject. Alas it is not to be. There are no logical answers. Plenty of anger and name calling, no answers. Guns are a tool and nothing more. Law abiding citizens don’t commit these atrocities. We need to be looking at the people, not the tools. We certainly do not need to leave citizens defenseless to face criminals and lunatics. This is the antithesis of logic.

“Ultimately the right to bear arms is a safeguard against tyrants. But it also serves to enable citizens to participate every day in their own safety and well being. There are many good reasons to cling to our guns and not one good reason to give them up. Only a government with tyrannical motives would seek to disarm its people. We must scream our defiance in the face of the single greatest threat to our Republic. We must hold onto our guns and make it clear to the liberals that we will not let them go willingly, that a 21st century civil war will ensue upon any action taken by them to pry those guns from our hands.

“We must shout from the rooftops, MOLON LABE! and we must mean it!”

Sen Paul may not question the motives of the administration, but I do! At some point, We, as Americans, will have to make a stand. How much liberty are we willing to surrender in the HOPE for some sense of security while immorality is permitted unchecked?

Regardless your thoughts on guns, there is no room for misunderstanding the Second Amendment of the Constitution. It says the right to keep and bear arms, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED! Period! Our President has other plans, and at some point, it will be up to the people of America to make a decision. Will we bow like the people of Chicago (or any of the other cities, towns, or nations that have turned in their weapons,) trust our President, and experience a surge in gun violence as gangs and criminals run unchecked? or will we STAND on our Constitutional rights!

Why are Americans so quick to surrender today?

For 236 years, the documents our Founders established with their blood, sweat, and tears have more than sufficed in the face of war, financial crises, and tragedy. Never have I heard talk of scrapping our Constitution until now. Why now? What has changed? If something has changed, is it a change for the better?

Built into the Constitution are specifically outlined methods for amending the Constitution in the event it is found insufficient in some way. Over the course of our history, that need to amend the Constitution has brought about legislative changes in accordance with the instructions outlined in the document.

We must ask ourselves why we, as Americans, are so quick to want to change our Constitution by means of unlawful methods? Past administrations submitted to the authority of the Constitution, or they worked through Congress to bring about the desired changes … for 236 yrs.

President Obama is not the FIRST to want to make changes, but he is the first to openly say he believes America needs a NEW Constitution. What is it so urgent that our President must move by Executive Order? Are the American people so willing to follow blindly where President Obama boldly leads … Even when he moves contrary to our Constitution? Why is he unable to move his policies through Congress legally? What is the urgency? He controls the Senate and had both the House & Senate for the first couple years of his presidency. Why can’t he get his agenda passed? Could it be that even Congress knows Obama’s Dream is NOT in America’s best interest or what the majority of Americans want?

The point at hand, is the Second Amendment of the Constitution. This seems to be the topic at the water cooler or the gym, and from my own experience, Americans are furious that our President is messing with the Constitution. His response? 23 new proposed Executive Orders. TWENTY-THREE!!! The question is, “Can he DO THAT?”

Aggressive Executive orders are not unique to President Obama, in fact, President Clinton was questioned about the breadth and scope of his executive orders. “Many citizens and lawmakers expressed concern over the content and scope of several of President Bill Clinton’s executive orders and land proclamations. Congress responded with hearings and the consideration of several bills designed to curb the President’s authority to issue such directives. In an exceedingly rare act, the courts reacted by striking down one of President Clinton’s executive orders, and litigation to contest the validity of other directives is ongoing.”

If the American people have become so busy, so greedy, so tainted, so lazy, or so apathetic as to surrender the brilliance and foresight of these original documents to the agenda of the moment, as the Dr Benjamin Franklin decreed,

We learned today that, in fact, this administration DID lie to us concerning the Benghazi incident Sep 11, 2012. She and her boss, President Obama, are responsible for the lives of the 4 Americans lost, but they are also responsible for those that survived. Where are they? WHO are they? Have their families learned the truth? And Hillary says, “What difference does it make?” REALLY? This is the audacity of this administration. This is the attitude toward WE-the-PEOPLE … Does anyone else see the pathetic irony here?

This is the administration we want to ALLOW to rewrite our Constitution? Are you NUTTS? Stand your ground, Patriots!

Have you seen “good” deeds outlawed while “bad” behavior is rewarded? Individual citizens are arrested for having a Bible study in their home while the current administration gets away with … “Fast & Furious” (Border agent Brian Terry slain by FBI weapon in Mexican hands), SEAL Team6 (that targeted Osama Bin Laden) 30 of 38 members of that team are now dead, and “Benghazi-gate” which resulted in 4 dead Americans and unknown numbers of survivors that have disappeared. There are other evidences, but the point is clear.

But this isn’t about politics or even President Obama. It is about the American people. It is about our “evolution!” Who knows what prompted those early adventurers to leave their European homes in search of … what? FREEDOM! If I asked each reader to give a definition of FREEDOM, I’d get as many different answers as there are readers. Our Declaration of Independence declares the purpose of government is to secure for every citizen our unalienable Rights, among which are LIFE, LIBERTY, and the PURSUIT of HAPPINESS.

BUT … “There is a way which seems right to a man but its end is the way of death.” “Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weights the hearts.” Proverbs 16:25; 21:2

Few would deny the human potential for good, but many deny the same humans the potential for bad. let’s clarify good and bad for the purpose of this article as good = constructive and bad = destructive.

Like the Prometheus of Aeschylus, who challenged the Olympian gods, and stole their fire to give to mankind, so our ancestors came to these shores, to bring progress, through science and Classical culture, safely away from the oligarchical pestilence of Europe. Here, ships arrive with Pilgrim settlers in Salem Harbor, 1628.

The early Pilgrims, Puritans, and merchants came to the “new World” to build, or contruct, a new world! The “old” world was fraught with tyranny, political & religious oppression, and affliction – “destructive” conditions. They sought a place to start fresh. Their moral compass dictated their ideals, and while there are always exceptions to the rule, they aspired to a high moral standard as taught by their religious practices. There is no doubt each perceived their obligation to strive for “holiness” in their everyday lives, and did so to the best of their ability and understanding, imperfect though they remained. Still, they sought to better themselves. Do we?

For decades now, students have been taught they are descendants of monkeys, simply another primate, with a somewhat larger brain. Some educators and scientists aren’t even convinced of that much. In the 60’s two radical physicians, Dr. Benjamin Spock and Dr. Thomas A Harris, took center stage with their work. Dr Spock encouraged permissiveness by telling parents they restricted the child’s creative potential when imposing morals. Dr. Harris confirmed this is his thesis: I’m OK; You’re OK Both of these men subscribed to a secular humanist doctrine which, basically says, “If it feels good, do it!”

What do we do, then, when we feel as Paul felt when he wrote:

ROMANS 7: 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.

Psychiatrists and psychologists agree … Shove those guilt feelings down. Ignore them! They’re nonsensical, old-fashioned, and not logical. Heard any of that lately? Maybe in the “contraception” debate?

The TRUTH is that “compromise” has leaked into our American culture. On the Alternatives to Marriage website, I found this information:

“increasingly more children today are living with unmarried parents:

39.7% of all births are to unmarried women (CDC, 2007).

Nearly 40% of different-sex, unmarried American households include children (CPS, 2007).

41% of first births by unmarried women are born to cohabiting partners (Larry Bumpass and Hsien-Hen Lu, 2000).

About two-fifths of children are expected to live in a cohabiting household at some point (Census, 2000).”

If we think there will not be “fallout” from this, we’re only kidding ourselves. And, as always, it is the children who pay the price. The really pathetic part is there is no distinction in the organized church. We, as free but corrupt humans have chosen destruction … destruction of our own lives and those of our children. We have chosen destruction of our nation’s character and the liberties our predecessors fought and died to achieve. We have squandered our “birthright!” But God … God has a better way, if we will make the necessary adjustments.

I want to leave you with a few wise words … no, not mine! I ask you only to consider them while I do the same, and make the necessary corrections.

What Should We Make of the Benghazi Bamboozle?

They knew, yet they let the battle rage for hours while Marines awaited the green light. They knew, and they let Americans die … WHY? So YOU might think al-Qaeda wasn’t involved, so the President would look good. So, how’s that workin’ for you, Mr President?

Much has been said or written about the massacre that sordid night in Benghazi, but many, many questions remain unanswered. Things like … What was Amb Stevens doing in Benghazi in the first place – no really? Could this have been one of those hypothetical “black ops” with deniability, because the powers at the top are certainly denying!!! What is behind the mass of military “retirements” of those in the know? Why is Hillary still silent? And on, and on …

Predictably, since the mainstream media isn’t covering the story or asking ANY questions, the public has pretty much forgotten the whole nasty affair and written it off as just another sex scandal with fall out. But there are hundreds of thousands of active military that serve under the same government … the same Commander-in-Chief who insists the investigation continues. What are they investigating? What is it they do not yet know? WE know. WE know who is responsible. WE know who ultimately gave the grievous order to “STAND DOWN!” We know, but continue to wait for a hint of accountability, a hint of real character … but I fear we wait in vain! I remain dissatisfied with the administration’s lack of response, lack of action toward those responsible, lack of explanation to US – the people of the United States!

• Where are the OTHER military men and women who KNOW what happened that fateful night?
• Is there not one man or woman with a shred of integrity involved?

The lessons of Benghazi

The report of the Accountability Review Board investigating the terrorist attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi concisely lays out much that we already knew: this was the premeditated work of terrorists, not a protest about a YouTube video that spun out of control; the attackers employed military tactics and used rocket-propelled grenades and other heavy weapons; they also used simple weapons of opportunity, such as gasoline used to set the fire that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and Sean Smith.

The report also confirmed that the Libyan government was totally incapable of providing security for U.S. facilities in Benghazi and was barely even in control of much of that city and its environs. The State Department’s naïve reliance on local militias of questionable capacity and uncertain loyalty was, in retrospect, a grave mistake. This was especially true given the recent history of high-profile anti-Western attacks in Benghazi, including one against the U.S. compound, as well as a vast body of intelligence that pointed to deteriorating security conditions in eastern Libya.

That we operated with a skeleton staff in such a precarious environment is clear evidence that we failed to connect the dots. That is a mistake we simply can’t afford to make again – in Libya or anywhere else with an American diplomatic presence. The State Department must adjust the security posture of diplomatic facilities in high-risk regions based on responsible, timely analysis of the best information available. We can no longer expect to rely primarily on host nations to protect American diplomats in all parts of the world.

Conducting U.S. diplomacy abroad is not without risks, and I strongly believe we must continue to represent the interests of the United States in difficult regions. In strategically important but volatile countries like Pakistan – or potentially a post-Assad Syria – it is crucial that the U.S. have an active diplomatic presence. We must be clear-eyed, however, about the dangers our people face in these places and, as the Accountability Review Board notes, we must be able to protect our own people. We can do this by reforming the Bureau of Diplomatic Security to ensure that it is agile, responsive and accountable.

Perhaps most concerning is that the report points to specific failures in the State Department’s chain of command. The Board’s co-chairs have assured us that Secretary Clinton supports their findings and recommendations, and informed us that four senior officials have resigned following the release of the Board’s report. However, questions still remain about why higher level officials in the Department, who were actively overseeing America’s relationship with the new Libyan government less than a year after the death of Muammar Qaddafi, could have been unaware about the security situation in Benghazi and not done more to protect U.S. personnel and facilities there.

Wife of Ft. Hood victim: Obama ignores our plight, never called us

Never forget 13 dead, 34 wounded November 5, 2009 at the most populous military installation stateside, Ft. Hood Texas, near Killeen. One Muslim gunman!

On November 5, 2009, Staff Sgt. Shawn Manning was shot six times by Maj. Nidal Hasan while he was serving on-duty at Ft. Hood in Temple, Texas, in what became known as the Ft. Hood Massacre. Today, Sgt. Manning’s wife is fighting for official military recognition for the victims of the attack, saying President Obama has ignored them and refused to acknowledge their sacrifice.

Autumn Manning is using social media, particularly Twitter, to keep Americans talking about the Ft. Hood tragedy and the lack of support she says she has received from the Obama administration and the President himself. Although Sgt. Manning barely survived the attack, neither he nor any of those wounded and killed have been given combat status for the event. That means they are not are eligible for military honors such as the Purple Heart.

In her Twitter profile, Autumn describes herself as “Wife of Soldier wounded at Fort Hood terrorist attack Nov 5th 2009…Never forget 13 dead, 34 wounded. Combat status denied thanks to Obama.”

Despite the efforts of many Republicans in Congress to give combat status to the Ft. Hood victims, the Obama administration continues to insist the event was domestic workplace violence. This insistence comes even after the government learned Hasan had exchanged emails with Al Qaeda recruiter Anwar al-Awlaki before the attack.

The latest denial came in May, when the Obama White House threatened to veto the National Defense Authorization Act ( NDAA 2013) when they stated “The administration objects to section 552, which would grant Purple Hearts to the victims of the shooting incidents in Fort Hood, Texas.” The Act has yet to be voted on by the Democratic-controlled Senate after approval by the Republican-controlled House.

Manning tweets almost daily about the Ft. Hood shooting and the President’s response. Her aim is to get enough people talking that the President can no longer ignore their cause. On September 30, she tweeted “My husband, days after Ft Hood shooting, shot 6 times, ignored by Obama..Never forget 11/5/09, as many already have.” She included a photo of Sgt. Manning in the hospital (shown above).

Also on September 30, Autumn Manning updated followers on her husband’s status. “Still 2 bullets left in him, finally received medical discharge last week after waiting nearly 3 years and denied combat status. This administration will not continue to sweep us under the rug,” she tweeted.

Manning also confirmed on Twitter that she did meet the President after the shooting, who promised her personally that he would “get to the bottom of this.” The President did not meet Sgt. Manning (who had been airlifted to another hospital), and despite their efforts to speak with him later, he never called to speak with her husband after the shooting. “Never called us, neither did our Senator Patty Murray who sits at the head of Armed Forces Committee. Tried to ask for help twice,” she said.

The irony of the President’s actions were not lost on Nancy Otterby, who tweeted “Obama never called you or your husband?! But he calls Ms Promiscuity, Sandra Fluke, & elevates her to ‘purple heart’ status.” > > > CONTINUE READING
