Only a fool has said in his heart there is no God! (Psalm 14:1 & 53:1)

America is in trouble, really big trouble. For decades, the “good” people of this nation slept and trusted our elected officials to take care of business properly. Ooops! We goofed! With increased power and decreased accountability, corrupt human nature took over. Washington DC is now occupied, and it might as well be by a foreign entity. The men and women who are charged with the responsibility to lead our nation have failed and turned us away from our heritage, away from the ideals and practices that made the US the most prosperous, most creative, most inventive, most satisfied people on earth. The way back to the Constitution, the only viable stable ground, is virtually impossible to reach simply because of the extent of the corruption and the depth of our overindulged and pampered population.

So … do we throw in the towel? Give up? HECK NO! As an old rock band used to sing, “It’s time to get on our knees and fight like men!” (and women!)

As our nation’s Founders designed their plan for a more perfect union, they understood that the success of a modern republic would require more than a political document like the Constitution. From their study of history, the Founders had learned of the pitfalls of republics before this one. They concluded that even the Constitution alone could not curb individual selfishness. They believed that virtues were necessary for sustaining the American experiment. Their fervent prayers were an integral part of the birth of our nation.

In fact, during the process, when the men were at an impass in the writing of the Constitution, it was Dr. Benjamin Franklin, (not the most devout Christian in the group!) that suggested they all pray for God’s guidance.

I have lived, Sir, a long time and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth — that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that “except the Lord build they labor in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall be become a reproach and a bye word down to future age. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human Wisdom, and leave it to chance, war, and conquest.

I therefore beg leave to move — that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the Clergy of this City be requested to officiate in that service.

NationalDayOfPrayer

The Presidential PrayerTeam suggests the following:

  • Pray for President Obama as he prepares to more fully lay out his agenda in next month’s State of the Union address. Pray he will seek to serve the needs of the nation.
  • Pray For Congressional Leaders

Senator Jay Rockefeller (West Virginia) said the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee will likely hold hearings on the problems plaguing the Boeing 787 “Dreamliner,” after its grounding by the FAA.

  • Representative Paul Broun (Georgia) is moving rapidly to assume Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s mantle, beginning with pressuring lawmakers to get a tighter grip on the Federal Reserve. He believes support is growing.

Pray for the new Congress as it sets out its legislative agenda for the year, especially on debt ceiling and spending.

  • Pray For Judicial Needs:
The U.S. Supreme Court dashed a Chicago-area atheist’s final legal bid to challenge the use of state funds to renovate a towering cross in Southern Illinois known as the Bald Knob Cross. The Court did not comment on its decision.

A federal appeals court upheld a controversial Wisconsin law that restricts the power of public sector unions, the passage of which sparked the unsuccessful effort last summer to remove Governor Scott Walker.

Pray for the Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court who will be taking up same-sex marriage issues this spring.

Current Events

WARS AND TERRORISM

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers delivered a newly completed Afghan Uniformed Police District Headquarters in Herat Province to Afghan authorities. The structure was built by Afghan contractors under U.S. supervision.

Afghan officials say a suicide squad launched an eight-hour assault in the capital on traffic police headquarters, killing three police officers. Authorities say all five attackers were killed in the offensive in Kabul.

Pray about the Taliban’s intention destroying facilities such as police headquarters and killing civil officers.

FOREIGN INTERESTS AND CONFLICTS

Several Egyptian members of the squad of militants that lay bloody siege to the Algerian gas complex last week also took part in the deadly attack on the U.S. Mission in Benghazi, Libya, a senior Algerian official reported.

The broader challenges the U.S. and its allies face in confronting terrorist cells that have taken up sanctuary across northern Africa was brought into focus by the bloody hostage crisis in Algeria.

Pray about the increasing levels of Islamist militant attacks in the African continent and level of U.S. response.

THE ECONOMY

Nearly half of eligible ex-service members who served in Iraq or Afghanistan are snubbing free federal healthcare they earned in uniform because many harbor “huge distrust” of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Even though much has changed over the past four years, the un-employment rate is the same today as it was when President Obama first assumed office in 2009. The current reported rate is 7.8 percent; some believe it is higher.

Pray for our ex-service members, many of whom count themselves among America’s unemployed.

ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies were sharply weakened in election results Tuesday, pushing him to try to form a coalition government with his opponents that stands to be more moderate but less stable.

The Palestinian Authority Wednesday said it would deal with any Israeli government that abides by UN resolutions calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state with the pre-1967 lines and Jerusalem as its capital.

Pray for the strength and resolve of the new government that Prime Minister Netanyahu must now assemble.

HEALTH CARE

Millions of low-income people could be required to pay more for health care under a proposed federal policy that would give states more freedom to impose co-payments and other charges on Medicaid patients.
The next edition of psychiatry’s diagnostic manual will include a listing for Internet-Use Disorder as a condition worth studying. Excessive internet use is a “drug” to the new generation, some claim.

Pray about ever-escalating costs of medical care, and for America’s youth in the Facebook and Twitter culture.

Look among the nations and see; wonder and be astounded.
For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.

Habakkuk 1:5

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7: 14

The History of the United States of America is extraordinarily rich with detail and interwoven themes, that over the decades, have been watered down for simplicity’s sake. There are still a few who argue against the Christian origins of our nation and the lofty vision of the Founders to succeed in honest and free self government.

For example, clearly, at the time the Founders shut themselves off to convene in order to form a more “perfect union,” many of these Founders owned slaves, so what kind of morality is that? Such hypocrisy, you say! Well, wait just a minute before you pass judgement. Who hasn’t driven a little above the speed limit? Who never “stole” a cookie from the cookie jar without permission? Who, as an adult, never said or did something contrary to our beliefs? We ALL do this, for better or for worse. It is human nature to break the rules, some more than others. Still not a justification for slavery, but an explanation.

Slavery was a social “norm” throughout history, in many different cultures and time periods, and it is one thing to believe against the norm. It’s totally another thing to be willing to act against the norm. But is slavery, then, natural Law

Our Declaration of Independence says our nation’s Right to Independence is based on the “Laws of Nature and Nature’s God … ” The Founders drew that idea from the ranks of ancient thinkers, philosophers, and teachers of the “Enlightenment” … Plato, Aristotle, Locke, and Cicero. These men spoke of a Natural Law that issued from that which keeps Nature’s order. To protect man’s unalienable rights, God established immutable Divine Laws which do not change with every political wind.

If the Natural Law (or Law of God) is written in our hearts and minds, why do we so easily stray from it? It is because even though it is written within us, it remains a foreign thing. There are two warring natures within us. One is base and selfish; the other virtuous and godly. The Adam and Eve who submitted to God’s Law, and the Adam and Eve who rebelled against God’s law still rage against one another today.

There is an old Cherokee legend that talks about this inner struggle:

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

2wolves“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

The struggle is universal; it is the human condition, and, as the tale above illustrates, the individual must made a choice which wolf, which nature to feed. We feed the good wolf by nurturing all that springs from real love – selfless love. Seldom in today’s America is this “good wolf” nourished. Rather, no matter where we look, we are bombarded with “food” for the EVIL wolf:

  • sexual perversion and abuse: from college sex parties (orgies) to the rising notion that pedophilia is just another sexual orientation;
  • various celebrations of self-indulgence: from the commercialization of Christmas to the deification of celebrities and athletes, from the “occupy” movement, to soap operas and “road rage;” and
  • deception in leadership, from the Oval Office on down.

But then, what is the Source of LIBERTY, or the idea of Liberty?

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with one another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitles them ...

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with one another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitles them …

“LIBERTY! The very word evokes hope and stirs the inner soul of man. Throughout the course of time, individuals and nations oppressed by the yoke of tyranny or bondage have cried out for liberty’s reprise and have sought for the comfort of its soothing rays. Revolution and war have oft been its price. Few nations have ever obtained it, let alone maintained it. Why so rare this prize for which so much blood and so many tears have been shed? Is its definition misunderstood? What is liberty and how is it secured, or more portentous, how is it lost?” More HERE

The overwhelming majority of Founders understood in their minds, if not their hearts, that slavery was not only EVIL but it contradicted the very ideals of freedom they sought to build into out nation, particularly the ideal of equality for all under the Law.

Prior to the time of the Founding Fathers, there had been few serious efforts to dismantle the institution of slavery. John Jay identified the point at which the change in attitude toward slavery began:

Prior to the great Revolution, the great majority . . . of our people had been so long accustomed to the practice and convenience of having slaves that very few among them even doubted the propriety and rectitude of it.

The Revolution was the turning point in the national attitude–and it was the Founding Fathers who contributed greatly to that change.

Many of the early American leaders went on to work to abolish slavery in the young nation. While each of the Founders had his own personal belief system, they sought “common ground” upon which to build the nation. Each of these men were highly esteemed, well-educated, and well-versed in the philosophies and political spectrum of the past. They knew not to build a nation on religion or religious doctrine, but they also understood that for liberty to endure, some moral boundaries were necessary. Read More HERE

“This is the covenant
that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord:
I will put My laws into their hearts,
and in their minds I will write them
,”

Hebrews 10: 16 & Jeremiah 31: 33

apostasyI contend the law referred to in the Bible passages here, is the “Natural Law” identified by Cicero and his predecessors. This is the Law that is written on our hearts and minds. It is truth. The conflict only appears when we, as humans, try to circumvent this Law or supersede it in theory or practice. Abortion is an excellent example. For more than 40 years, American society has been torn by the desire to make unwanted pregnancies “disappear,” yet some believe simply saying it’s “legal” makes everything better. As evidenced by the hundreds of thousands of Americans who continue to march every January in disagreement with the man-made law allowing the murder of unborn babies, Natural Law cannot be overruled easily. it is written on our hearts and minds, and even if the courts say it is legal, our conscience tells us otherwise.

Sen Feinstein and President Obama can argue all they want against the Natural Law to honor our Creator, but, in the end, Natural Law cannot be overruled. It is human instinct, self-preservation, it is written on our inward parts, and our only hope for peace is to yield to this Law.

And yet we continue to attempt to live apart from the Natural Law, the law that is inwardly inscribed, and still we continue to look outwardly for solutions to society’s ills in futility.

Liberty cannot be established without morality,
nor morality without faith.

Examples of Public and Private Duties
Here are some of the more important responsibilities which the Creator has imposed on every human being of normal mental capacity:

    1. The duty to honor the supremacy of the Creator and his laws. (As Blackstone states, the Creator’s law is the supreme law of the world: “This law of nature, being coeval with mankind and dictated by God himself, is of course superior in obligation to any other. It is binding over all the globe in all countries, and at all times; no human laws are of any validity, if contrary to this….” [Ibid., Introduction, sec. 2, par. 39.])
    2. The duty not to take the life of another except in self-defense.
    3. The duty not to steal or destroy the property of another.
    4. The duty to be honest in all transactions with others.
    5. The duty of children to honor and obey their parents and elders.

“Molon labe” – Come & Take it!

STAND YOUR GROUND

“Molon labe” – Come & Take it!

More and more, Americans are seeing and feeling the restrictive bonds of tyranny. Now, you may think I am over-reacting, but let me ask you your definition of tyranny? The first definition listed here, is “arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority.”

Repeatedly, we have witnessed President Obama’s disrespect for the Constitution, the ideals that formed the bedrock for our nation, and his disdain for the members of the military who have put their very lives on the line to purchase and defend the Liberty declared in 1776. While past leaders have stretched Executive authority, no one has flaunted their defiance in the face of the people the way this administration has … as evidenced just this week by our Sec of State’s statement, “What’s the difference …

DEFIANCE AGAINST TYRANNY

    Friday, January 25, 2013

    By Becky Kress

“molon-labeWhen Xerxes I of Persia demanded that the Spartans lay down their arms and surrender at the Battle of Thermopylae, King Leonidas I responded with defiance, “Molon labe”, “come and take!”. While Leonidas’ 300 could not stand forever against this invading force, love of country and a fervent desire to protect Sparta and its citizens from an enslaving tyrant gave the Spartan warriors the impetus they needed to fight to the death of every last man.

“Throughout history we see example after example of people standing against tyrants. America is no exception. We fought the Revolutionary war to gain our freedom from a king who used the newfound wealth from the colonies to help fund his kingdom, all the while treating us like the redheaded step children. We threw off those shackles in defiance of tyranny. Thus began the great American Experiment. There was born the greatest nation in the world.

“Our Founding Fathers were well acquainted with history and her ugly past. They crafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights with that history, including their own recent emancipation, in mind. Understanding that men are born in liberty, endowed by their Creator, the Constitution was written to protect those God given rights. These venerated documents are timeless.

“2ndAmendmentThe second amendment is our greatest protection to help us guard against the infringement of the others. While progressives scream that we need fewer guns to be safe, nothing could be further from the truth. And once again, history bears us out. In every instance of tyrannical takeover, the first act of the invader has been to disarm its people. But you know that history. It has been spoken of innumerable times. We must admit that not every case of disarmament has been by a tyrant. There are also historic cases of nations taking guns from its citizens because they believed it would make them safer. And in every case, once again, they have been proven wrong.

“In 1997 Australia instituted a national gun ban and citizens turned in more than 640,000 guns for destruction. What was the result? Accidental gun deaths are up 300% from the pre ban years, robbery and armed robbery have increased 20%, the assault rate has increased 200%, and homicides with firearms are up 171% in the state of Victoria alone. What does that tell you folks? That the criminals STILL have guns, that law abiding citizens are now unable to protect themselves on a level playing field, that the black market for illegal guns is thriving, and that gun bans only hurt a nations citizenry and help criminals.

“U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland, recently added his support to President Obama’s call for gun control measures. Liberals across the nation have convinced their mindless sheeple that “assault weapons” need to be taken out of the hands of everyday Americans and that no one has need of a magazine that holds more than ten rounds.

“Assault weaponTime and again I have asked the question, “what is an assault weapon?” and have been answered with dumbfounded silence. I own a Mossberg 500. It has a pistol grip and a chainsaw handle. I have opted to remove the chainsaw handle and add an Archangel tactical stock to it. When it is finished it will look pretty awesome. I like to accessorize my guns, much like I enjoy wearing earrings and having a wide selection of purses. It doesn’t change the nature of the gun. It is a semi automatic 12 gauge shotgun. That is all it will ever be. But it will look like what liberals think of as an assault weapon. And so they would ban it if we would let them. Sadly, we must fight the good fight largely because of their lack of education and willingness to understand. Like a child throwing a tantrum, they want it their way. What I wouldn’t give to have just one gun Nazi give a logical answer to my logical questions on the subject. Alas it is not to be. There are no logical answers. Plenty of anger and name calling, no answers. Guns are a tool and nothing more. Law abiding citizens don’t commit these atrocities. We need to be looking at the people, not the tools. We certainly do not need to leave citizens defenseless to face criminals and lunatics. This is the antithesis of logic.

Click this photo for more info on this flag!

“Ultimately the right to bear arms is a safeguard against tyrants. But it also serves to enable citizens to participate every day in their own safety and well being. There are many good reasons to cling to our guns and not one good reason to give them up. Only a government with tyrannical motives would seek to disarm its people. We must scream our defiance in the face of the single greatest threat to our Republic. We must hold onto our guns and make it clear to the liberals that we will not let them go willingly, that a 21st century civil war will ensue upon any action taken by them to pry those guns from our hands.

“We must shout from the rooftops, MOLON LABE! and we must mean it!”

Sen Paul may not question the motives of the administration, but I do! At some point, We, as Americans, will have to make a stand. How much liberty are we willing to surrender in the HOPE for some sense of security while immorality is permitted unchecked?

Regardless your thoughts on guns, there is no room for misunderstanding the Second Amendment of the Constitution. It says the right to keep and bear arms, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED! Period! Our President has other plans, and at some point, it will be up to the people of America to make a decision. Will we bow like the people of Chicago (or any of the other cities, towns, or nations that have turned in their weapons,) trust our President, and experience a surge in gun violence as gangs and criminals run unchecked? or will we STAND on our Constitutional rights!

Can we really TRUST our government?

Why Are Americans so Quick to Surrender Today?

Dr. Benjamin Franklin, Executive Orders, President Clinton, President Obama, US Constitution

    Obama's Bill of Rights

Why are Americans so quick to surrender today?

For 236 years, the documents our Founders established with their blood, sweat, and tears have more than sufficed in the face of war, financial crises, and tragedy. Never have I heard talk of scrapping our Constitution until now. Why now? What has changed? If something has changed, is it a change for the better?

Built into the Constitution are specifically outlined methods for amending the Constitution in the event it is found insufficient in some way. Over the course of our history, that need to amend the Constitution has brought about legislative changes in accordance with the instructions outlined in the document.

WATCH the VIDEO: America Gets a Constitution

We must ask ourselves why we, as Americans, are so quick to want to change our Constitution by means of unlawful methods? Past administrations submitted to the authority of the Constitution, or they worked through Congress to bring about the desired changes … for 236 yrs.

President Obama is not the FIRST to want to make changes, but he is the first to openly say he believes America needs a NEW Constitution. What is it so urgent that our President must move by Executive Order? Are the American people so willing to follow blindly where President Obama boldly leads … Even when he moves contrary to our Constitution? Why is he unable to move his policies through Congress legally? What is the urgency? He controls the Senate and had both the House & Senate for the first couple years of his presidency. Why can’t he get his agenda passed? Could it be that even Congress knows Obama’s Dream is NOT in America’s best interest or what the majority of Americans want?

The point at hand, is the Second Amendment of the Constitution. This seems to be the topic at the water cooler or the gym, and from my own experience, Americans are furious that our President is messing with the Constitution. His response? 23 new proposed Executive Orders. TWENTY-THREE!!! The question is, “Can he DO THAT?”

Aggressive Executive orders are not unique to President Obama, in fact, President Clinton was questioned about the breadth and scope of his executive orders. “Many citizens and lawmakers expressed concern over the content and scope of several of President Bill Clinton’s executive orders and land proclamations. Congress responded with hearings and the consideration of several bills designed to curb the President’s authority to issue such directives. In an exceedingly rare act, the courts reacted by striking down one of President Clinton’s executive orders, and litigation to contest the validity of other directives is ongoing.”

If the American people have become so busy, so greedy, so tainted, so lazy, or so apathetic as to surrender the brilliance and foresight of these original documents to the agenda of the moment, as the Dr Benjamin Franklin decreed,

    benjamin_franklin_liberty_freedom_quote_print_poster-r3dc8abfe69a8484bbf55f1b8180b8e92_ahvgh_400

We learned today that, in fact, this administration DID lie to us concerning the Benghazi incident Sep 11, 2012. She and her boss, President Obama, are responsible for the lives of the 4 Americans lost, but they are also responsible for those that survived. Where are they? WHO are they? Have their families learned the truth? And Hillary says, “What difference does it make?” REALLY? This is the audacity of this administration. This is the attitude toward WE-the-PEOPLE … Does anyone else see the pathetic irony here?

This is the administration we want to ALLOW to rewrite our Constitution? Are you NUTTS? Stand your ground, Patriots!

This past Sunday’s homily included a quote from Pope Benedicte’s book called , ‘Spirit of the Liturgy’, and today I find a quote on a poster from Ignatius Press! This book is a must have. Reading through tweets this afternoon, I came across a post here,  taken from  the L’Osservatore Romano (the Vatican’s newspaper) which relates perfectly to the slogan on the  above poster:

Here, Robert Spencer explains how the idea of a war against terror, which is ignorant or not honest about the enemy it is actually fighting will fail. He acknowledges the focus of Islam as an aggresive ideology behind the threat of terror. He refers to a lesser known memorandum uncovered by FBI and later made public. The memorandum lists the initiative of the “Grand Jihad in North America” and lists some 50 organisations and councils which are all apparently a front for a slow islamisation.
I have put this memorandum up as part of the “Jihad Dossier” here. Notice however that the first 16 pages are in arabic followed by their english translation.

    A Day to Pray

As I’m sure you all know, Monday is Inauguration Day, 2013, and many, many Americans are disgruntled about the manner in which the Presidency was retained. The man in the Oval Office appears to have no moral character to speak of, and this is reflected throughout most of the Congress, as well. Yes, there are a handful of exceptional men and women, but they are no outnumbered and overpowered, the effect of their good character is diminished.

At this point in our history, only God is big enough and strong enough to reverse the downward spiral of our no godless culture … if He will. For clarity, I’m not saying the Church … I’m saying Almighty GOD, YAHWEH, JEHOVAH … not allah! For a large part of the 20th Century, the Progressive movement (like the “Enlightenment” era) sought to use science and math to trump faith. We experienced a wave of human secularism that swept our education system from Kindergarten through the elite universities. “Evolution” trumped “Intelligent Design,” not because of superior evidence, but because of political pressure, i.e. “political correctness!”

“If we look at it analytically, if we look at it historically, we quickly find out exactly what it is. Political Correctness is cultural Marxism. It is Marxism translated from economic into cultural terms. It is an effort that goes back not to the 1960s and the hippies and the peace movement, but back to World War I. If we compare the basic tenets of Political Correctness with classical Marxism the parallels are very obvious.

“First of all, both are totalitarian ideologies. The totalitarian nature of Political Correctness is revealed nowhere more clearly than on college campuses, many of which at this point are small ivy covered North Koreas, where the student or faculty member who dares to cross any of the lines set up by the gender feminist or the homosexual-rights activists, or the local black or Hispanic group, or any of the other sainted “victims” groups that PC revolves around, quickly find themselves in judicial trouble. Within the small legal system of the college, they face formal charges – some star-chamber proceeding – and punishment. That is a little look into the future that Political Correctness intends for the nation as a whole.” (Bill Lind, February 5, 2000)

PoliticalCorrectnessThis is where we live today. This is why those of us with faith in GOD must pray for our nation. I’m counting tomorrow as a START date … with no defined end date, but until we see GOD move in our midst to bring about a righteous change. For too long, we, the faithful, have done nothing. We have allowed deception to overtake the people of America and steal their (our) birthright – the American Dream!

Even the Presidential Prayer Team has written:

President Obama Still Campaigning: Launches ’Organizing for Action’

      (Friday, January 18, 2013)

“President Barack Obama on Friday announced the relaunch of his remaining campaign apparatus as a new tax-exempt group called Organizing for Action that will “play an active role” in “mobilizing around and speaking out in support of important legislation” during his second term.

“We may have started this as a longshot presidential primary campaign in 2007, but it’s always been about more than just winning an election. [INDEED! It is about redefining AMERICA!]

Together, we’ve made our communities stronger, we’ve fought for historic legislation, and we’ve brought more people than ever before into the political process,” Obama wrote in an email to supporters. “Organizing for Action will be a permanent commitment to this mission.” “We’ve got to keep working on growing the economy from the middle out, along with making meaningful progress on the issues we care about – immigration reform, climate change, balanced deficit reduction, reducing gun violence, and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act,” Obama wrote. “I’m not going to be able to take them on without you.” Organizing for Action will be separate from the Democratic National Committee, with Obama’s 2012 campaign manager, Jim Messina, serving as the national chairman of the group.”

      (Sources: Politico, ABC News)

No more excuses! We must each be an asset to our nation!

No more excuses! We must each be an asset to our nation!

They, the Progressives who want to recreate America into something OTHER than what our Founders (and GOD) designed via our Declaration of Independence and US Constitution, are organized and lead by the “Community Organizer-in-Chief.” Those of us who oppose these measures and policies must also, for the sake of our future generations, organize and pray for GOD’s direction and strategy to defeat the destructive powers at work in our nation. We must!

    Prayer Suggestions:

    • Pray for a rise in the general awareness of the American people, that the lethargy or apathy be broken; that the American people would assume the position of We-the-People and assume their responsibility as such!
    • Pray for the deceptive veil over the eyes of many Americans to be exposed and lifted so they can SEE the choices clearly.
    • Pray for Godly leaders to rise up boldly without fear of retaliation or reelection!
    • Pray for an overwhelming hunger for righteousness and integrity to arise among the American people.
    • Pray for Godly discernment, i.e. clear vision of the motivations of our leaders, both those we see and those behind the curtain.

What Is the Future of Conservatism?

This article is from our January symposium issue, in which 53 leading writers and thinkers answer the question: “What is the future of conservatism in the wake of the 2012 election?” Click here to read the entire symposium.

    by HUGH HEWITT

The war against Islamist extremism dominated American politics from September 2001 to the summer of 2008–by which time President George W. Bush, his generals, and his soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines had effectively won its opening rounds. Before they had done so, however, the Republican Party lost not only the political argument about the war during the election of 2006, but also the argument over the causes of economic panic that gripped the country in late 2008.

The sequence of political spasms that shuddered through the country in the first decade of the new century left behind an unfinished war that quickly began to turn against an exhausted America (and is turning still) and a new debate about the size and cost of government. The GOP, representing conservatism, won decisively the first round of the debate on taxing and spending in 2010 and lost the second round this past November. We are left with a divided government that fairly reflects a country deeply divided on this key question (and, less obviously, on strategy for the war). The balance of political power is very close to even: a narrow center-right majority on the Supreme Court, a solid conservative majority in the House of Representatives, and 30 of 50 governorships versus a small center-left Democratic majority in the Senate and the weakest reelected president in modern times–one who conducted a singularly divisive, idea-free campaign.

Because the presidency has the biggest microphone, it appears to the Manhattan-Beltway media elite that President Obama is in charge. It would not have appeared that way to the Framers and it ought not to appear that way to conservatives today. Ten thousand commentaries from legions of self-assured pundits will never repeal even a comma, much less a phrase, of the Constitution.

Conservatives are, first and chiefly, charged with protecting the Constitution, and in this era that means insisting on the rights of the House, and of the states and people they represent, while providing the appropriations necessary to fund the military. It means insisting that the president govern as any president was intended to govern: only with the funds given him by the Congress, for the purposes they are given, only with the authorities allocated to him by the Constitution as interpreted by the Supreme Court, and only insofar as he does not injure the powers reserved to the states or trample on the rights of individuals.

This means urging the House to use the appropriations and oversight powers it possesses to assure that the military is kept strong and that the executive branch does not abuse its powers, especially through a vast regulatory apparatus.

These checks on the executive are enormous–if used. It is the job of conservatives to insist that they be used, and used even when the chattering class clucks away at the “obstructionists” who are impeding the will of the president.
