NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Columbia University will offer a new course for upperclassmen and grad students next semester. An Occupy Wall Street class will send students into the field and will be taught by Dr. Hannah Appel, a veteran of the Occupy movement.
The course begins next semester and will be divided between class work at Columbia’s Morningside Heights campus and fieldwork that will require students to become involved with the Occupy movement outside of the classroom.
The course will be called “Occupy the Field: Global Finance, Inequality, Social Movement” it will be run by the anthropology department.
Appel is a staunch defender of the Occupy movement, in her blog she said that, ““it is important to push back against the rhetoric of ‘disorganization’ or ‘a movement without a message’ coming from left, right and center.”
Appel told the New York Post that while her involvement with the movement will color the way she teaches it will not prevent her from being an objective teacher.
The movement which began in September has been met with large amounts of support and resistance.

Strange that Tea Party participation does not earn credit?
ya … too bad it doesn’t work both ways! lol Ah well, this is the NEW America! :p
If there is anyone out there who believes that this Progressive educator employed in the one of the most Progressive educational institutions in the world is capable of being objective, I have a bridge to sell you.
Progressives are doubling down on the indoctrination process. I strongly suspect that by next September such programs will be included throughout the educational system cross-country.
What a sham. One spends millions on indoctrinating our children who after it is all said and done can’t even count straight.
Excellent find Barb. Thanks for sharing.
The thing that infuriates me is … this has been going on for years. I saw it, and jumped out of the Union in the 80’s. I saw the direction the leaders were taking us (educators) and tried for a couple years to fight back from within… It didn’t work, so I got out. No more seditious, elitist, arrogant group of people! For her (and others) to presume Americans would believe in her objectivity is beyond reason.
People spend exorbitant amounts of money for college tuition these days, and for what? I push trade schools, myself! In this day and age, things being as they are, college is a lousy investment unless the student wants law, medicine, scientific research or education as a profession.
Thanks, girlfriend!
