4 Pots – What do You Dream About?

Stepping aside from my usual topics, I had a dream a couple weeks ago. I’m sure I’m not alone in this. We dream all the time whether we remember them or not. I most often do not remember my dreams, but this one was different. I knew it was different immediately, and I knew it was instructive. How did I know? No clue! I just knew!

The dreams was a series of snapshots. First shot was a group of 4 large flower pots in my living room. (My living room is currently without much furniture since I am re-furnishing very slowly!) I was surrounded by these 4 pots, and they were filled with dirt and ready to go. Into the first pot, I was instructed to push a potato – about 2/3′s into the dirt. The second pot was to receive a leafy carrot, and the third pot – a leafy red beet! That left the 4th pot. I had no clue what I was supposed to do with it. I tried, in the dream, to suggest cabbage, or peppers, or cucumber … or even a peach tree, but no, none of those would do. I shrugged … and woke up!

Now, here’s some weird coincidences for those who believe in coincidences … I was having lunch this day with a girlfriend who happens to be, yes, a certified Master Dream Interpreter. Hmmm!

OK, so of course, I told her the dream and listened as she explained her interpretation. She told me the pots each represented a sphere of influence in my life. (like family, friends, etc …) She said I currently have three active spheres of influence, well rooted and developed, and there was a new one on the horizon. She added that because these were all root crops, that somehow “root” issues were involved in each of these spheres.

OK … I can live with that, I thought. It “felt” accurate, if somewhat ambiguous.

The next day, I spent a couple hours on the phone with another girlfriend that happens to live in Charleston, SC … 12 hours from me in Pittsburgh! (I’ve made the trip a few times! lol) I recounted the dream to her along with the shared interpretation. She responded, “That’s not what I see! Now, remember I’m Irish,” she said laughing! “The potato represents substance,” she added. “You have what you need. Maybe not all the luxuries you wish, but you have what you need. The carrot,” she continued, “represents gold, money, cash. Again, you have enough … and the beet represents color. You were dead to color/emotion and now you are thriving!”

I was thrilled with the way BOTH of these interpretations fit together. To my mind, it was not that one was wrong and the other right. They were BOTH right … a different angle of right which illustrates my life-beliefs.

I have gone on record previously as saying I am a Believer in the Lord Jesus. I do not call myself a Christian, but others might. I am NOT active in a local assembly at this time in my life for a few reasons. This is one. Many local churches preach a form of “my way or the highway.” I just cannot see (or hear) Jesus saying that to anyone. He did remind people of their sinful nature and enable them to change, but he did not disassociate from “sinners” and lock himself behind a church wall.

It is very clear to me that I do not know or understand all of God! If I could, I wouldn’t need him! (Selah!) Since this is true, why would I assume my image, my understanding, my vision of who God is might be 100% accurate? On the contrary, I believe I have a glimpse. But I know each of these two ladies also each have a glimpse that differs from mine because their life-experience has been different than mine. If I insist my way is the only right way, I lose the precious increase they can share. Now, not only do I have my personal understanding of this dream, but I have the added richness of each of these “sisters.”

We cut ourselves off from blessing and richness when we refuse to allow the ideas of others to increase our vision. Not that ALL other interpretations fit, but a very wise man told me long ago, to “Eat the grapes and spit out the seeds!”

I will post photos of MY POTS this weekend and periodically as they grow! I am curious about the 4th pot, which, for now, will remain empty except for the dirt!
